Asian Games, 2022
Asian Games, 2022
The first-ever
Asian Games were held in New Delhi in 1951. Asian Games were regulated
by the Asian Games Federation from 1951 to 1978. Since 1982, Olympic Council of Asia
now regulates the Asian
Games.
The 2022 Asian Games, officially the 19th Asian Games and also known as Hangzhou 2022, was a continental multi-sport event which was held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
Originally scheduled to take place from 10 to 25 September 2022, on 6 May 2022 the Games were postponed to 2023 due to
the COVID-19 Pandemic. The new dates were announced on 19
July 2022. Hangzhou
was the third Chinese city to
host the Asian Games, after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
The official
slogan of the event, "Heart
to Heart, @Future", represents the goal of uniting the people and
countries of Asia through these games.
Asian Games is bounded on the east by the
Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic
Ocean. Asia is subdivided into 49 countries,
five of them (Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkey) are
transcontinental countries lying partly in Europe.
In 2022 Asian Games, for a total of 481 gold medals, over 45 nations had participated in 40 sports over 61 categories.
India
finished their Asian Games 2023 campaign with a record haul of 107 medals - 28 gold,
38 silver and 41 bronze
i.e. 4th
position in the medal list. This surpassed India's previous record tally
achieved at the last edition at Jakarta 2018, where a 570-strong Indian squad
racked up 70 medals - 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze.
Leading
the medal count, China bagged a mammoth 200 golds, with Japan and South Korea
trailing behind.
